The new story I'm working on brings back Jamie Taylor and her working dogs in a big way.
In my first book, Red Tide, Jamie and her sister Jax were almost burned alive. Because of that horrific experience Jamie added an accelerant detection dog (sometimes incorrectly referred to as an arson dog) to her family.
Gretchen is the name of her human remains detection dog (sometimes referred to as a cadaver dog).
Socrates (or Socks) is her search and rescue dog.
McKenzie is her medical/therapy dog.
And now there's her accelerant detection dog. He's a golden-lab mix.
Right now I'm calling him Smokey, but that's just too darned predictable. So, I've decided to open up the naming process. Whoever submits the name I choose will win one of my books (your choice), either Kindle or paperback.
If two people suggest the same name (and it's selected), whoever submitted the name first will win their choice of books.
Thanks for your help!
It's all better with friends.
Apollo is my choice for his name.
ReplyDeleteJust plain old Goldie.
ReplyDeleteBlaze
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's obvious, but if he's reddish, name him Flame, just because of his color.
ReplyDeleteMy suggestion is Kaji. Japanese word for fire.
ReplyDeleteThis is not shaping up to be as easy as I thought it might be!
ReplyDeleteHi Peg
ReplyDeleteCaldo which is "hot" in Italian.
Collette
Just because he's an accelerant dog doesn't mean you have to call him names having to do with fire. I think his name should be "Nomad"
ReplyDeleteCameron
My suggestion is Flash!
ReplyDeleteItza (Secret) asked me to post this for her:
ReplyDeleteHi, Peg.
My husband tells me that across the pond they call gasoline (a really popular accelerant) "petrol." What if you shortened that to Pete or Petey?
My idea was playing with the accelerant called acetone. You could shorten that to "Ace." Excellent name, IMHO, for a male golden-lab mix.
Then again, I have a 12-pound Shih-Tzu, one of those little yappy dogs, and I wanted to call her "Thor." (To scare people, LOL!)
I think Dante would be a great name.
ReplyDeleteFrom Jane Bishop:
ReplyDeleteThe name doesn't always have to match up with the detection work. But I do like Ranger, Jumpin' Jack Flash, Dash (for Dashell Hammett) , Lil Red Rufus and Let 'em/er Rip ... and of course, there's my current love Shoot Em Up Bang Bang, call name Remy (short for Remmington rifles) ... Is the dog male or female?
(And why is it so hard to post?)
Crisp?
ReplyDeleteOh, dear, it's Friday.
Sherpa (because he or she does all the work?)
I simply MUST read that book, especially now that I know there's a dog prominent in it.
Kathy
Jake comes to mind, seems to fit with the other dogs.
ReplyDeleteShadow... I've always wanted to name a dog Shadow. Whatever you choose, I think it should be something fairly easy for Jamie to yell, in case another fire breaks out!
ReplyDeleteWell, no one has suggested Pele, Hawaiian goddess of fire - or Agni - Hindu god of fire, so I'll toss those into the hat.
ReplyDeleteAxle. Judy

ReplyDeleteKaji!
Thank you everyone for helping me to find a name for this terrific dog. I sort of wish I had a ton of dogs we could name together!
Barbara, let me know which book you would like, and in what format. You can either leave me the information here, or contact me through my website.
Duh. My website is http://www.pegbrantley.com
