My Nano Puddle

At this point, I have four buddies writing their hearts out to get to 50,000 words for the month of November. (If you're involved, I'm listed under Peg Brantley . . . I know that's not very innovative. I'm saving innovative for when I really need it.)

For those on-track, the total word count for the month should be about 20,000. I am shooting for the moon with 6,813. I have one buddy really close at 18,456, and I couldn't be more proud. My other two are both in the 12,000 range and I think they are rockin'.

One of my buddies, a pubbed author, is sitting at 1,777. Have you heard of a sandbagger? This person is gonna come out at the eleventh hour with a full 100,000 word novel. I just know it.

Still reading Orbit.

Not very happy with my word count, but hey . . . maybe they're all keepers. Yeah, right.

It's all better with friends.

  1. I'm at a stand-still now. Was hit by two (out of town) funerals and a conference. Since I'm on the conference committee I'll be tied up Friday and Saturday. I had such good intentions!! I need to revisit my outline to get rejuvenated. I added a "couple" of words last night and feel like I'm saying the same thing over and over and over. :( Discouraged with a capital D -- but looking forward to the conference.

BTW, our Lake Charles leader finished his 50,000 words Wednesday night. Now where's the fun in THAT!! He should start another one. LOL

  2. First, my condolences on your losses. It's never a good time of year, but now seems especially tough.

The conference will be history soon and you will take a deep breath and plunge right back in with renewed energy for your project.

I saw the word count on your page the other day. Couldn't he have held back just a little? I thought starting another one was also a good idea (or just continuing what he's working on if that fits), but then I thought that would be sort of like running up the score at a football game that was already a rout. Know what I mean?

  3. Good for you for trying! I signed up but my brain is NOT functioning this month and nothing is coming out. Does it count that I wrote that many words in August :)

(I'm new to the Writer's View - thanks for posting!)

  4. Zowie, Dorinda. You did 50k in August? When there wasn't a contest/competition/daily encouragement thing going on?

    Were they mostly keepers?

    (Closing my mouth now.)

I'm plopping down a few blicky words tonight just to DO something, you know? I fear they will, each and every one, be deleted when I actually pay attention.
